ELEARNING 2.0 CONFERENCE - CALL FOR PARTICPATION

6th & 7th July 2009

Brunel University, West London, UK

 

Your participation is invited for attendance at a two-day international mini-conference on eLearning 2.0. The conference explores the impact of Web 2.0 on Technology Enhanced Learning, including podcasting for pedagogic purposes, and involves keynote speeches and invited presentations.

 

Keynote speakers include:

 

Dr. Reynol Junco (author of "Connecting to the Net.Generation" and Associate Professor at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania)

 

John Connell (Education Strategist and Business Development Manager for Cisco Systems), and

Dr. Yair Levy (author of "Assessing the Value of E-Learning Systems" and Associate Professor of Information Systems at Nova Southeastern University).

The conference aims to explore the impact of Web 2.0 on Technology Enhanced Learning. Evolving technologies that impact on learning include web-based communities, hosted services, and applications such as social-networking sites (e.g Facebook, Twitter), video-sharing sites (e.g. YouTube), video and audio podcasting, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies (e.g. Delicious). The conference will consider the impact and potential exploitation of these technologies in an educational setting.

 

The aim is to:

- facilitate collaboration between practitioners, researchers, and policy makers

- explore the potential impact of Web 2.0 on technology enhanced learning

- spread good practice in the use of Web 2.0 and learning technology

- consider evolving pedagogical approaches using Web 2.0

- raise the profile of research in learning technology

 

Attendance is by invitation only. There is a maximum participation of 50 attendees. Potential participants should RSVP as soon as possible.

Attendance is free of charge, and coffee and lunch will be provided.

 

* Presentations:

Participants who wish to give presentations should submit an abstract of no more than 200 words indicating their subject of interest.

* Conference Location:

Brunel Business School, Brunel University, West London, UK Brunel University is in Uxbridge on the western edge of London. Uxbridge is in a prime location for reaching the transport network that embraces London and South-east England. It is a short drive from the M4, M40 and M25 and has the added benefit of being on the edge of the London Underground network. It is about a 25-minute drive or bus ride from London's Heathrow airport.

TASI - Audio Production Workshop: Recording Lectures, Seminars, Interviews and Podcasts - 3rd April

 

Aim

 

This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to record and produce recordings of spoken word audio, with specific emphasis being placed upon the recording of lectures, interviews, seminars and events. You will learn the basic concepts of recording technologies and through practical exercises you will learn how to confidently apply these into a practical situation. The workshop will also introduce ideas for delivering your new media, be it through podcasting for example, and managing your digital recordings.

 

Audience

 

This workshop is for those with an interest in producing audio resources along with staff embarking on recording projects, and non-technical staff who wish to gain knowledge in order to oversee recording projects. The workshop assumes no previous knowledge of recording systems or audio theory although some basic IT understanding is desired as the workshop will go into some technical depth.

* Basic principles of digital audio and terminology

* Introduction and set up of basic recording systems

* Troubleshoot basic common technical issues

* Digital audio capture

* Production techniques

* Basic software editing functions

* Delivery of media

* Creation of 'podcast ready' material

* Creating simple technical metadata records
